Lifeline To Kauai’s North Shore Must Be Rebuilt Now, Relocated Later
Kuhio Highway is buried in thousands of pounds of mud and debris, creating a new challenge for transportation officials.

THE AFTERMATH ON KAUAIFROM THE BIG ISLANDSaving Reefs One Sunscreen Container At A Time
Spreading awareness about reef-harming sunscreens and actually doing something to keep them out of the ocean is not an easy task — but the Big Island’s Kohala Center is doing its utmost.
The center is offering tourists the chance to swap their harmful sunscreens in exchange for safe ones. And the response has been positive.
It’s part of a yearlong research project at Kahaluu Bay in Kailua-Kona, which could have worldwide implications for reefs.
Researchers will take a baseline water sample before the yearlong project and a sample a year later, after the “sunscreen swap.”
