A substation and adjacent warehouse that stored a drilling rig at the Puna Geothermal Venture were covered by lava this week.
The main access road to the plant has also been covered and blocked by lava. An alternative access road remains open. Two geothermal wellheads were destroyed Monday.

More residents of Leilani Estates are having to evacuate, being forced out of their homes by approaching lava and dangerous fumes.
The lava is moving fast, swallowing up vegetation and man-made structures in its path. According to a USGS scientist, recent fissures are now spouting “the hottest lava that we’ve seen in this eruption.”
One fissure was observed early Wednesday fountaining lava over 200 feet into the air. (That’s taller than Aloha Tower.)

FBI Offers $20K Reward For Info About Missing Hawaii Kai Man
Jonathan Fraser has been missing since July 2016, when he was last seen in his Hawaii Kai apartment. He would now be 23 years old.
Fraser’s family suspects foul play in his disappearance, and the FBI is now offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to his whereabouts.

Interior Secretary Doubles Down On ‘Konnichiwa’ Comment To Hanabusa
About two months ago, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and Congresswoman Hanabusa had an odd exchange. Zinke greeted Hanabusa with a head-scratching “konnichiwa” during a committee hearing, which Hanabusa and others pegged as offensive and racially insensitive.
Zinke defended himself then and continues to defend himself now. This week he went on a Breitbart radio show and said he had “friends that were Japanese.”
Hanabusa’s response? “Secretary Zinke continues to miss the point.”

Update:Aloha! Thank you everyone for your compassion, love and support throughout the last 48 hours and this entire crazy amazing life altering month of May on ...the Big island of Hawaii!
In the face of all that's happened to Briana and I (losing our living space to lava, being shot at while trying to have closure with our loss) we are still #punastrong.
Our dreams remain the same. All we wish for is to have a safe space in a lava 3 or higher zone) to grow food, raise our first child (a canine named: Korben "Chewie" Calrissian) and sustain our clowning and solar shave ice food cart business so that we may continue to keep our community smiling through these troubled times and beyond.
Briana's sister had the foresight to set up a gofund me account when this all began. Here is the link to our campaign. Any financial support we could recieve at this time would be greatly appreciated and will be used towards achieving our dreams listed above.

This was my yesterday. Happy to be alive. Be careful out there folks. This situation is really beginning to take its toll psychologically and the bad weather is contributing to emotional tensions. Folks are breaking down.
Briana Spangler was present along with Aurorah DavisLauren Kaech and Preston Cook. We're all ok physically. Just shaken psychologically.
The police were called immediately and the shooter is in custody at this time.
