MAHALO GREAT SPIRIT OF THE UNIVERSE FOA ANOTHER DAY . YOUR BLESSING ARE NOT TAKEN FOA GRANTED ....MAHALO KE AKUA
Auntie hello! I thought of my father who was born in the islands before Hawaii was a State and work sugar cane as a child. He was called Marco by all his family and friends be cause he stowed away on a President Lines cruise ship at age 14 and never got off until he retired as head chef for third class.
Today i will make his famous southern fried chicken made with bourbon. His delicious egg potato salad. I made about 80 siu mai dumplings the day before and put up 10 pounds of mak kim chi. He loved to make big meals for his ohana and chow up a ton of food in his woks. He loved to eat at that Hawaiian place on Kapahulu. I cook his recipes for my sister and her husband who will be visiting me in the high sierras this week in his memory. Good eating Auntie, wish you could sit down with my ohana and enjoy.💗

"Who is Mr. Carter or any other foreigner to tell a Hawaiian we cannot use the word haole?"
Throwback Thursday: In 1990 a letter written by a 32 year old Caucas...ian student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa was published in the Ka Leo newspaper. The student claimed the Hawaiian word "haole" was derogative and equated it to the n-word. In response, Professor Haunani-Kay Trask published an article in the same newspaper where she provided a brief history of Hawaiʻi, discussed the decline of our language and highlighted the narrative of white supremacy in America. Following her response came a flood of controversy, which included threats to remove her as the Director for the Center of Hawaiian Studies. In spite of it all, Trask was able to keep her position as director, going on to inspire and educate many of today's Kānaka Maoli leaders.
