DONATE Trump’s Latest Assault on our Public Lands Would Destroy Millions of Acres President Trump is rushing through management plans for the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments that would hand over millions of acres to fossil fuel and mining companies. The deadline to oppose their plans: 11/15.  TAKE ACTION  Tony, The Trump administration is one step closer to destroying our magnificent national monuments. When President Trump signed proclamations dismantling the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments last year, he had one goal in mind: Throwing open our protected public lands to drilling, mining, and other corporate plunder. Now, knowing the legality of these proclamations are being hotly challenged in the courts by NRDC and others, Trump’s Interior Department is fast-tracking aggressive management plans for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante that would advance the department’s intentions to hand over millions of acres of our national monuments to corporate interests. Tony, the Trump administration is asking for input on these plans from you — the owner of these public lands — but only for a brief time. Submit an official public comment to Trump’s Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke opposing his department’s outrageous management plans for the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. Trump’s Interior Department isn’t even hiding their intentions. To quote them directly, their management plans would “conserve the least land area for physical, biological, and cultural resources,” and would be “the least restrictive to energy and mineral development.” In other words, if these proposed plans are forced through, millions of acres of lands that were illegally cut out of our irreplaceable monuments could be devastated by drilling and mining for coal, oil, gas, and other minerals. The plans even go as far as to expose 15% of the land that still has protections to logging and mining. We need your help overwhelming the Trump administration with letters of opposition before the 11/15 comment deadline: Tell Zinke and his Interior Department to stop their assault on our public lands. Here’s the thing...Trump does not have the legal authority to undo the monument designations of previous presidents. Only Congress can revoke or reduce a national monument, making the management plans for Utah’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante completely illegitimate. NRDC is fighting the administration tirelessly in court to save Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and all our cherished public lands. But until the case is settled, we urgently need you and other activists to help stop the Interior Department from rushing through their management plans that give fossil fuel and mining companies access to these national treasures. Please send an official comment to Trump’s Interior Department demanding that they withdraw their management plans handing over millions of acres of public land to the fossil fuel industry.
