Went to the archives on Oahu to do research and found these photos! Oh how “sore” my heart felt knowing that there were no BURIAL LAWS to protect our “IWI KUPU...NA.”
Because of the desecrating acts at HONOKOHUA, MAUI with the digging of about 1200 iwi kupuna with the development of the Carlton Ritz in 1989, Hawaiian Activists of Pele Defense Fund and PKO Kaho’olawe led by Palikapu Dedman, stood in solidarity demanding that the digging STOP!
Governor Waihe’e and members of OHA signed off to DIG our “iwi kupuna” to make way for this development. Pele Defense Fund protested the State Capitol.
Unfortunately the digging is still going on, Burial rules and regulations need to be changed! Or CHALLENGED!
PHOTO: Can anyone tell me what island this photo might have been taken?
From their attire, looks like the 50’s.
