Didi,

Big news: NRDC and our partners sued the Trump administration today for illegally approving a permit to build the climate-wrecking Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

Simply put: We're asking the court to put an end to the Keystone XL, once and for all.

Today's lawsuit is the critical next step in our fight to block this disastrous pipeline, which would pipe some of the world's dirtiest oil through America's heartland, threatening our land, water, climate and communities, from Montana through Nebraska and to the Gulf coast.

NRDC is prepared to battle the Trump administration in court for as long as it takes to kill the Keystone XL for good. But to do that, we need your strong support.

Will you become an NRDC monthly donor with a tax-deductible donation of $5 or more to defend the environment and help sustain our courtroom fight to stop the Keystone XL?

Our lawsuit contends that the Trump administration broke the law by approving the permit based on a woefully outdated environmental review — a years-old assessment that severely underestimated the environmental and climate impacts of the pipeline — and by refusing to prepare a new analysis based on updated information.

The Trump administration knows that a new, proper and truthful review will make it even clearer that the Keystone XL is bad for our air and water, bad for our climate and bad for the American people — and should never be built.

Stopping the pipeline is a tall order — but no one is better suited to taking it on than NRDC's legal team. And we simply can't fight for as long as we need to without the support of NRDC members and activists like you.

Please consider becoming a monthly donor to NRDC today to help fund our courtroom battle to stop the Keystone XL and defend our environment in the most effective way possible. Even $5 a month is a huge help.

NRDC is fighting the Keystone XL on multiple fronts by:
  • Whipping up a groundswell of international opposition to this climate-busting pipeline
  • Helping local community groups in Nebraska to compel the Nebraska Public Service Commission to reject permits for the pipeline to cross that state
  • Making the case to investors and potential financiers that Keystone XL is a bad bet for our environment and our economy, and they should pull out of the project
But for now, our courtroom fight is the flashpoint, and we need you to stand with us. We killed this pipeline before, and together, we can do it again.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Rhea
