FYI -
There is a 26-minute video being circulated as a representation of a
display of a foraging and breeding ecology as having been in existence
on the property (UHWO) from 2016 through 2018-
Point:
This video was referenced in Mike Lee's letter today to DLNR-
it shows courtship of pueo at the 10:15 time code - this could be the
trigger to re-assess the opinion and possibly influence the position of
DLNR that the property at UHWO served the pueo in a greater capacity
than previously thought.
Please consider checking out Mike Lee's letter attached and pasted below
for quick read that was sent to Chairperson Case-
Now the good news-
To mitigate for the loss of habitat at UHWO- DLNR can apply for
the grant monies as referenced in Mike Lee's letter to initiate the
process to secure replacement habitat elsewhere- - no SEIS needed-
no Habitat Conservation Plan necessary-
Meaning, property that is not slated for development can be identified
and dedicated to serve as a pueo preserve nearby UHWO ---ELSEWHERE
as stated by UFWS Ms. Jenny Hoskins in the video and offered in the form of a
resolution at the State Legislature - HCR170 as relief.
The grant can be used to start the mapping /identifying where a pueo preserve
boundary would be most prudent as HCR170 sought to implement.
Mike Lee's traditional and cultural and religious practices as carried on
by many Native Hawaiians- and by those who value that bird as a sacred
being (aumakua), could benefit from this grant -- per NPS item #3, $50,000.00
for preservation of "pueo" land is available - and this effort would appear to
qualify.
Kudos to Mike Lee for offering the solution to use the evidence of pueo as
a mechanism to serve DLNR in its applying for the grant!

Aloha Chairperson Suzanne Case, DLNR-
I hope you consider watching the 26-minute video
that exhibits the evidence you most likely have not seen.
Please note, I am unaware of any survey to inventory the
property for a breeding or foraging ecology as you stated
was performed by DLNR- can you elaborate when the newly
devised protocol to observe for breeding and foraging ecology
transpired on the property? I was under the impression
a population count survey was done and that did not include
any investigation into nesting sites.
My response letter is attached and I await your thoughts
on the possibilities to identify and secure
replacement habitat starting with the grant.
