Robert F. Kennedy Jr: More than 450 #farmers killed themselves across nine Midwestern states from 2014 to 2018. The real total is likely to be higher because not every state provided #suicide data for every year and some redacted portions of the data. https://investigatemidwest.org/2020/03/05/seeds-of-despair-isolated-and-with-limited-access-to-mental-health-care-hundreds-are-dying-by-suicide/

HB2565 HD1 sets up a state Pesticide Disposal Amnesty Program. On the surface, HB2565 HD1 seems like a good idea, but the bill shifts the financial and legal responsibility of their safe disposal entirely to Hawai'i's taxpayers.
Support the safe disposal of all pesticides but feel strongly that large agrichemical users—not the State nor your taxpayer dollars—should be responsible for safe disposal of these dangerous chemicals.
Tell the Judiciary Committee to amend HB2565 HD1 to shift the financial and legal responsibility of using these dangerous chemicals to large agrichemical users.

Right now you cannot conduct any composting transactions on land zoned Agriculture. It is legal only on land zoned Industrial. SB2532 allows composting transactions to take place on ag land as well.
This makes it legal for farmers to accept organic materials from their neighbors and local businesses.
...
Makes it legal for farmers to sell the compost they generate on their farms.
Allow farmers all across Hawaii to take advantage of federal carbon sequestration incentives as they roll out.
SB2532 increases the profit potential of Hawaii’s family farms.
Passage of SB2532 will pave the way for the development of a distributed system of small scale composting operations which represents the least impactful and most productive means for generating the soil amendments needed to improve soil health. Improving soil health is a key strategy for capturing atmospheric carbon and reversing global warming.

OLDER
Is Bernie electable? His plan is to end industrial chemical farming, implementing a trillion-dollar program of organic and regenerative (carbon-sequestering) food, farming and land use practices. That is tantalizing, huh?
