Tane Inciong Again we say, it’s not about science; it’s about construction of the observatory, and its impact on the mauna, restrict its use to astronomy and not military use of it, the fact of how intrusive it is in a conservation area, toxins leaching the soil, how it operates would it affect the area, and its relation to the mountain’s aquifer. What are the potential accidents and its effects and how well can it be cleaned up with minimal devastation.
These are legitimate concerns. It would also be beneficial to see the construction blueprints to determine how intrusive it will be to the mauna. For TMT to be considered; all other observatories must be removed.

Kai Williams Tane Inciong please state what environmental impact the telescope will have on the Mauna. Please site your sources as well. The protests are a decent effort, but if the claims you people are making can’t be backed by concrete fact, then what cause are you actually fighting for?
