Contenders to the Throne
SOVEREIGNTY HAS BEEN AN ELUSIVE GOAL, BUT SOME HAWAIIANS AREN’T WAITING AROUND. WE TAKE A LOOK AT LOCAL GROUPS WHO ARE ALREADY OPERATING THEIR OWN FUNCTIONAL HAWAIIAN GOVERNMENTS—KINGS, QUEENS AND MINISTERS OF THE INTERIOR.

Figueroa’s claim of recognition from U.S. government agencies is similar to claims to legitimacy staked by other Hawaiian kingdom governments. Many of the Hawaiian nationals we spoke with told triumphant stories of encounters in which the chief of police or a district court judge or some other authority figure was convinced of the legitimacy of the Hawaiian kingdom. Kahau says she was inspired to move her seat of government to Iolani Palace when some of her council officials appeared before the state Legislature, and the legislators clapped for them “in their official capacity,” thereby recognizing the Hawaiian kingdom government.
As we went to press, the specifics of Figueroa’s election were in flux. Figueroa said he would soon be traveling back to Hawaii meet with various Hawaiian independence faction leaders (who he said he was not at liberty to reveal) about revising the slate of candidates and possibly rewriting the constitution. He also said the voting period would likely be extended, although he did not explain how adding new candidates halfway through an election wouldn’t invalidate the entire process.
In any case, Figueroa vows never to give up on creating an independent Hawaiian government. “I will be relentless, and I will move this process forward the way I deem possible to have the most positive results,” he says. “Everyone who knows me, and looks me in the eye, says, Rich, the passion, it oozes out of your eyes!”

The Once and Future Kingdoms
Sai, Kahau, Figueroa—and just about anyone involved in a Hawaiian Independence government—all share a sense of optimism about their chances for success. There’s an unshakeable faith that justice will win out in the end, no matter how daunting the obstacles may appear.

“In the past 10 years or so, just about every avenue of escape for the United States has been sealed off,” says Leon Siu. “They can’t claim ignorance, since they admitted wrongdoing in the apology resolution. They can’t use the argument that what they did was in our best interest. And they can’t say that it was in the past, and we should just move on. International law doesn’t work like that, there’s no expiration date. Very soon they won’t be able to hide behind the ignorance of the rest of the world. I think it’s quite imminent that this will happen.”

The Nation of Hawaii Led by Bumpy Kanahele. One of the most well-known factions, thanks to his 1990s standoff with the state. Fifteen years later, the Nation is still alive and well, operating a community called Puuhonua o Waimanalo (Refuge of Waimanalo) on the 45-acre property secured by Kanahele as a result of the standoff. www.hawaii-nation.org
The Reinstated Hawaiian Kingdom Government Led by Henry Noa, prime minister. This government has been operating since 1999, complete with an updated constitution. The group was most recently in the news this spring, when three members of the government, including Noa, were sentenced to community service for illegally entering (reclaiming, in their words) the Kahoolawe Island Reserve in 2006. hawaii-gov.net
The Kingdom of Hawaii Led by Dennis Ragsdale, this government focuses heavily on the importance of international law, especially as outlined in Emerich de Vattel’s classic text The Law of Nations. www.pixi.com/~kingdom
The Hawaiian Kingdom (Ke Aupuni o Hawaii, Ko Hawaii Pae Aina) This government consists primarily of a Cabinet Council acting to restore the full function of the Hawaiian kingdom, although it has also set up a Supreme Court for the Hawaiian Islands, with which to enforce the laws of the land. Foreign minister Leon Siu has been working to raise awareness of the government internationally.

The Kingdom of Hawaii Led by James Akahi, who claims to be king based on a direct lineage from Kamehameha the First. Akahi, who is known as Akahi Nui, was first coronated in 1998, and gained notoriety last year when he and others from his government broke into Iolani Palace, and he attempted to chain himself to the throne. www.freehawaii.org
The Kingdom of Hawaii (Aupuni Hawaii) Led by Norman Keanaaina. This government, based on the island of Hawaii, has about 20 officials and claims a few hundred followers. Keanaaina also claims the monarchy as a direct descendent of Kamehameha the First, and has been active in attempting to reclaim lands in Kona.
The Kingdom of Hawaii Led by Edmund Silva. A small faction on Hawaii Island; not much is known about this government.

Hi Amelia, was wondering if you found any more solid proof linking HANUNA(k) as being father to KAPULE(k). This is my only broken link I have in my kuauhau, I have probate of kapule that proves he had 3 sisters. Poohina, hookahi, and kini. Another document mentions hanuna having a child named koo-blank, is this other name KINI? Also have proof native and foreign testimonies saying hanuna had 4 children when he died.
Also have strong evidence of KAIOIOLE(k) and KAILIHAO(w) being the parents of my moms greatgrandfather PAAHAO(k).
helped your mom in the past to pull up Paahao's birth certificate.....there's another family who's from him....the McDougal family....their other ancestor was Wilson, the one who helped Queen Liliuokalani ....are you sure that is your family? you must be connected to the McDougals if so.........also Paahao had brothers Mekukala - buried at Kawaiahao Church; D. Apolo Kaiole/Kaioiole; and Solomon Papu/Kolomona.........who was Kalakaua's son, his sister being Kamaka...........will past your info on to the McDougal's...... as for Hanuna, I haven't seen the connection with Kaiole......? and btw, there are many people now utilizing the Protective Orders that have been given out --- about 1500 so far.....the Konohiki are resuming their positions, we have the House of Nobles in place....the State of Hawaii sued us over the Crown Lands.....case ongoing, our families descend from four (4) of Kamehameha's children, and am from two of Isaac Davis children, etc. Yes indeed, genealogies are very important...aloha.

This line I have strong proofs all the way to kaioioles father who is PAELE(k). There is another PAAHAO(k) who is shown to be having a child with KEOHO(w), child was born same day as my gg grandfather PAAHAO(k), his name is KEWALO(k).
heres an old archive record of birth hawaii 1861, showing kaioiole and kailihao having paahao, also right above kailihao theres a paahao who is recorded in other kuauhaus as kailihaos brother, anyhow theres the age gap of the 2 paahao. mahalo Amelia

Amelia i wanted to ask if you know where i should look for, in order to finish my mookuauhau. Just need to look for KAILIO or David Davis, documented to being the father of PAELE.

Paele had Kaioiole/Kaiole who married Kailihao, daughter of Kenao - Waikiki property where the Catholic Church - St. Augustine sits on..... Kenao married Nahuina and had hanai: Keohokalole the mother of Queen Liliuokalani, King Kalakaua, Leleiohoku 2, Miriam Likelike.

i need to come and do more research and maybe file claims, i researched the lands and guess whos on it, United States of America Military on the top of Waikaloa, near mauna kea, and USA on top of the bottom of kiilae
found out someone sold a portion but they cannot purchase Alodio lands and able to get only fee simple or 30 years...... found some frauds by Lucy Peabody...the deed is from Hueu DAVIES not DAVIS ... criminal for sure.

John Young had Grace Kamaikui (and others) who married Isaac Davis. They had Hueu Davis; Kale, and Peke. Your brother has the tracking and xeroxes...maybe you could check with him...i helped him some when he was here recently. he doesn't know about the fraud deed... Hueu had only three children in the court case: Kahiamoe, Kailio, and Hokuaulani. Kailio died in 1849. Kailio was the hanai of James Young Kanehoa - the oldest son of John Young ---- Kailio had Kailio (2) /David Davis, Paele, Kauahao (w) Liber 37/124.. Paele had Kaiole/Kaiaiole Liber 48/53; Kaili 13/270 Kekua and Kauhi Liber 77/411 and Liber 48/53.... Kaiole/ Kaiaiole (k) had Paahao, D.A. Kaiole, Kamaka (w), and Solomona Pahu aka's... Kamaikui and Kekuanaoa are also the Halawa Ahupuaa owners which includes Pearl Harbor........i was on that case and documented fraud. our families are descendants of Kauhi and heirs of Solomona Pahu /Kolomona /Kaopu Momona who was the son of King Kalakaua. Kamaka (w) was the daughter of King Kalakaua Liber 12 page 448. We are the descendants of Kauhi in multiples of lines and heirs of Solomona Pahu/ Kolomona Pahu because he adopted my grandmother. My grandmother was also adopted by Kailihou/Kekainui/Kekai who was married to Kahiamoe and had son name Kamauoha and daughter Wahineaea. .....am thinking that Kahiamoe was a son of the oldest son of Kahiamoe......maybe you could figure that one out...........am from Kaluakini the half brother of Kamauoha and Wahineaea. the cool part about charging rents to those on our lands is that we create an automatic landlord lien! .
the thing about the Davis family is that Hueu, Kale, and Peke were adopted by John Young, Kamehameha, AND Kamehameha III
Paele btw married Kuamoo (w) his cousin, daughter of Kale Davis.... our family descends from all 3 Davis families.... anywayz, like an ieie vine the genealogies are all locked in......

the probate of Hueu Davis shows 15? kids but only the 3 of his oldest children are mentioned in the court case...thinking a lot of the so called kids are frauds..... yes God bless you folks too...we are cousins in multiples of ways...my long time friend is a Kamauoha as well...till later goodnight...........malama pono.

there are documents at the bureau that connects it directly...i have it too because i am one of the descendants/heirs of Kailio....didn't know you were in town...
we are descendants of both Hueu Davis and Peke Davis....one of the children of Kale Davis also appears in our genealogies too.
yah i went over on the 2nd and 3rd there was a sale on flights i got a few things that are useful except the part where kailio is the father to paele maybe i be back again soon thank for all the help

our Princess Poomaikelani's families represents Kalaniopuu's, Kamehameha's, Kaumualii's, Hueu, Kale, and Peke Davis lines......Peke Davis only had 4 children... 1 was adopted out, the others: 1) Wahinekipi (w), 2) David Keawe (ours), and 3) George Sylva - who had no children......our David Keawe line continued with our lines. ... Kailihao was the daughter of Kenao Not Kinau.....guess you folks have a lot more genealogy research to do.......

I met with the Queens Hospital Executive team for discussion about the services for Kanaka Maoli and subjects of the Kingdom .
Out of respect to his father congressman Senator Akaka I will not discuss the sovereignty and independence movement, but I made it very clear what my position is on Sovereignty of our Kingdom
We all are in this mess of illegal military occupation of the Kingdom of Hawaii and we will prevail.
