Today—12 Kepakemapa—in Hawaiian history [1897]: A petition to US President William McKinley and the US Senate, protesting the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and resisting the idea of an annexation of the Hawaiian nation to the United States of America, is sent out by Ka Ahahui Hawaiʻi Aloha ʻĀina and Ka Ahahui Hawaiʻi Aloha ʻĀina o Nā Wahine through special messengers headed to every district in the Islands. The petition would come to gather over 21,000 signatures and work to block the second attempt at annexation in 1898.
