Vol VI No. 622 Part 1b - Mauna Kea

Wow. Intense but oh so informational hearing. Gunther Hasinger's testimony was a refreshing change from the not knowing a thing to someone that is knowledgeable and HONEST.
To say his testimony is astronomy "biased" would be true and to watch him light up while talking about it then you see his facial expressions change when asked about "some" native Hawaiians believe Mauna Kea is Sacred shows me that he does feel what astronomy is doing in the TMT might affect Hawaiians. However he still feels all the positives out weight the negatives.

++these thoughts from the front lines:
relatives, if I offend any it is not meant to do that.
When you come to stand with us, come with a strong heart and a strong mind. If you are wounded mentally and spiritually this is the place to heal. The camp is for healing.. It is the place where you go to the frontline of your heart and mind first..
Then to the front lines. The front lines needs everyone to be in healing and in prayer.
Today our elders made the decisions from a prayerful place to remain non violent and to continue to keep it nonviolent. We are no longer going to react nor allow ourselves to be fooled into reacting. They have done so much to us as a native people and we will not allow ourselves to become them and the beast. We will regroup and visit at the place of healing and then to the front lines to stop the pipeline.
When you come here respect the elders and all those who don't respect our elders because of personal stuff, you need healing. Let go of ego.
When you come here as a visitor respect that this is standing rock people's land and everything we do is to assist our relatives to stop the black snake. We are guest here and therefore we must respect the people. They will be here long after we are gone back to our communities or to another camp on turtle island to assist others but we must heal as a one and a people.
We remain strong and we will stop the black snake. We will do it through prayerful ways. Together like the buffalo people and in the knowing.
One heart, one people!
Until Victory!

UH witness Dr. Gunther Hasinger stated he strongly believes it is not only possible for astronomy and native practitioners to coexist but that “It’s necessary to coexist.”

The University of Hawai‘i’s first witness, Perry J. White, completed his testimony and was followed by UH-Hilo witnesses James T. Hayes and Gunther Hassinger.

Sending a big shout out to our Mana Wahine, Chandell Asuncion. Every day this week she makes us a healthy breakfast of overnight oats and fruits, she makes sure a table is set up during the hearing for healthy snacks and coffee that we can go to and grab whenever we need, makes sure our lunches are coordinated for the day, helps set up these lunches, then cleans them up and breaks them down, and then zip locks the food at the end of the day to send home with Ohana. We could not make it thru these long days without people like Chandell!! You are so appreciated, tita, and we love you!!

Gunther Hasinger: I think the churches are sacred for the people who go to the church, I don’t know of any sacred area as such.

Amy RW Marsh This is a great book by Ralph Metzner. And of course there are pre-Christian sacred sites in Germany and all over Europe. However, a lot of times the Christian churches built in Europe plunked themselves down ON TOP OF sacred pagan sites, just as the churches appropriated pagan holidays and traditions, "Christianizing" them. https://www.amazon.com/Well-Remembrance.../dp/1570626286

For the past 3 days, UH Counsel has received numerous objections for "coaching", and "signaling" their witnesses during their cross-examinations.
Towards the end of today's Hearing, Keomailani and I both catch them "motioning" to their witness NOT to answer while being questioned, and we OBJECT.
His response to Judge Amano - "I’m sorry, I express things with my hands, out of frustration."
Judge Amano: “Well you should try to roll your eyes like I do.”
Me - "I would just like to clarify, that his motion to the witness was clearly like this (makes cutting motion across neck) not like (flails around in upset.)”
Judge Amano - "I see."
We may not be lawyers, and we may not understand all of your "legal terms"...but trust and believe, we're watching you.

Kealoha Pisciotta to UH witness Gunther Hasinger (Director of Institute of Astronomy) -
KP - "Are you aware that Hawaiian rights are protected under the Hawai'i State Constitution?"
GH - "No."
This being said by the man who stated in his witness testimony, that -
"One of the most important questions of our time and place here in Hawai'i is: How to find balance between the scientific exploration on Mauna Kea, and it's cultural and spiritual significance to many people?"
How are you supposed to even begin to find balance when you don't even understand our cultural and spiritual rights AS a people?

Have you ever heard of the Hawaii Tourism Authority?
Is there a Hawaii STEM Authority that you know of?
Is STEM currently part of everyday DOE curriculum in Hawaii or do teachers in Hawaii need to purchase STEM programs online because the Hawaii DOE does not include STEM lessons?
Why did it take decades for astronomy at UH to finally allow a
native Hawaiian to graduate with a PHD?
Do you believe the annual Journey Through the Universe program is a fair exchange for the use of the mauna for a mere
$1.00 a year?
Why did you wait so long to finally name some discovery Hawaiian?
What does Laniakea mean?
What is the origin of that name?
How does naming a discovery in Hawaiian benefit anyone in Hawaii?
Isn't a discovery basically a bragging right?
Work force at 50% locals, do you have some proof of that?
In your testimony you claim climate change was discovered with astronomy? At which telescope in Hawaii was this discovery made?

Normally our closing time for these Hearings, is 4:30 pm, however, this witness is leaving for Europe tomorrow so all questioning must be done today.
Kealoha Kahunaaina Iona is still going strong, just changed his flight back to Oahu in the middle of his testimony, and Aunty Cindy Freitas still has yet to go.
