John Waiheʻe III, former governor and con-con delegate conducts a series of public conversations, assessing the con-con, and the subsequent social, cultural and political transformations particularly involving Native Hawaiians society.
MOʻOMEHEU the second in this series of four public conversations looks at how the new constitution affected Hawaiian cultural health, including language revival, water rights, and gathering rights.
Panelists:
Charlene Hoe – 1978 ConCon Windward Oʻahu Delegate, Founder of Hakipuʻu Learning Center
Keoni Kuoha - Co-Founder and Executive Director, Papahana Kuaola
Kamoaʻe Walk - Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of the Jonathan Napela Center for Hawaiian Language and Cultural Studies at BYUH-Hawaiʻi

Kaʻanoʻi Walk - Senior Policy Analyst with Kamehameha Schools’ Kūamahi Community Education Division
It has been 40 years since the 1978 Constitutional Convention in Hawaiʻi that, among many other things, brought Native Hawaiian issues to political prominence. Under a ballot initiative this fall, voters in Hawaiʻi will choose whether to hold another constitutional convention, and Hawaiʻi residents and Native Hawaiians must consider the opportunities and risks that a new con-con would present.
Each session will feature a presentation by former governor Waiheʻe and contributions from a panel of historical and contemporary participants in Hawaiian social and political movements including activists, government officials and educators. A large part of the evening will be dedicated to contributions from the audience. All sessions will be video-recorded and may be publically broadcast.
