The judges in California and other border states don't force Mexican/American or even illegal Mexican immigrants to speak English!! Heck, in California to apply for many jobs, you must speak and understand Spanish!!

How dare your Send out a Warrant for an Aboriginal Hawaiians speaking Hawaiian in Hawaii!. You are a low down worn. I demand Harakiri! The Japanese emperor would be ashamed of you Judge Blaine Kobayashi! As a Hawaiian I demand Harakiri! You honor-less snake. The Constitution of the State of Hawaii states “ English and Hawaiian shall be the official languages of Hawaii, except that Hawaiian shall be required for public acts and transactions only as provided by law. [Add Const Con 1978 and election Nov 7, 1978]”(Hawaii, 1959) But Judge Blaine Kobayashi interpreted this in his own view. But wait??? Doesn’t the Hawaiian Flag have the British seal on it? That because Kamehameha the 1st signed a treaty with King Gorge the third in 1796. Making the Hawaiian language within the United Kingdom another form of English. What a stupid raciest judge. You know growing up in Hawaii people don't realize how little Hawaiians have as rights of our heritage. We couldn't speak, Hawaiian we're not allowed to do things because we were Hawaiian. The American government overtook our country, our Sovereign monarchy, and our Sovereign lands. They took what was precious to us and thought that we didn't have any rights to fight back, we never asked for annexation, we never asked to be a state , and we sure as hell never asked to have our whole lifestyle taken away because the white man thought it was wrong of us as Hawaiian to want to be left alone. When do we get to stand up for ourselves? When do we get to self-govern and protect our Hawaiian heritage? I might be only a quarter Hawaiian, but I'm still Hawaiian and it breaks my heart to know how no matter how bad the United States treated Our Queen, took our lands, and then treat us like criminals for fighting back and wanting what was ours in the first place?!! We never asked for America to come into Hawaii, they took it upon themselves to steal what was rightfully ours and now when we fight back we're treated as though we have no rights!!? Auwe!!

and when you go into a court, if you answer the judge when he/she asks, "do you understand" you should say "no!" because if you answer in the affirmative (yes) that means you voluntarily subject yourself to their jurisdiction/laws at that moment.

When I got got tickets for skateboarding without a helmet as a kid in California I remember several people being allowed to speak in Spanish with a translator. Whack that they can't speak one of the official languages of the state.

The culture of a people is contained in the language. To deprive them of their language is to deprive them of the wisdom of their culture. The judge who would not have a Hawaiian court reporter was blackmailing the Hawaiian speakers and using her pulpit to bully them into using English.

The issue of it being an official language or not is even secondary. It’s a basic human right recognized internationally for anyone to speak their own language if they are brought up on trial, regardless of official status.

The argument used by Mr. Kanuha, i.e., English and Hawaiian both being "official" languages of the State of Hawaii, can be used AGAINST him, just as he tried to use it against others. If a judge cannot force English on him, then he cannot force Hawaiian on a judge. You see, that argument cuts both ways. Note also that Mr. Kanuha, and Mr. Kaeo, had to use English to explain themselves to YouTube viewers. If they had used Hawaiian, then less than 0.0001% of viewers would even watch, let alone listen or understand. Neither Kanuha, nor Kaeo, nor anyone else, can effectively advocate for the Hawaiian language, using Hawaiian language only. In order to "save", or promote, the Hawaiian language, they need to use the English language to do so.     Both Kanuha and Kaeo distorted and misrepresented the truth about the history of Hawaii and the Hawaiian language. The language declined mainly due to the voluntary decisions of most of its native speakers to NOT pass it on to their own children, because, they wanted their children to have the best chance for success in the increasingly more English-driven world. Even so, Hawaiian survived on Niihau anyway, and still does, with no help from the likes of Kanuha or Kaeo. I know Mr. Kaeo. Hawaiian is not his native language. He learned his Hawaiian by taking classes at the university.
