By Landess Cole Lava Speeds Up And Forces More Evacuations As Despair Grows By Jason Armstrong More residents of Leilani Estates are having to evacuate, being forced out of their homes by approaching lava and dangerous fumes. The lava is moving fast, swallowing up vegetation and man-made structures in its path. According to a USGS scientist, recent fissures are now spouting “the hottest lava that we’ve seen in this eruption.” One fissure was observed early Wednesday fountaining lava over 200 feet into the air.
