There's no self determination when we have to bargain away our independence and civil rights. The us agrees we should be our own government as long as it's in the U.S. best interests. Don't be naive.

It HAD its own sovereign government before US took over in 1890's. Totally back this, its time to open this discussion, it has to be talked about since there is alot of money at stake, and the corporations in Hawaii won't give in easily. Don't quit! Its YOUR LAND!
I'd like an honest answer from the "sovereignty" activists, how do you imagine this scenario playing out? So you're opposed to federal recognition because you believe it will somehow compromise our "sovereignty..." ok, so how do we become "sovereign" without federal recognition? What are the specifics and the details? How do we go from being a State of the Union to an independent nation? This is a simple question and sovereignty activists invariably can't come up with a reasonable, logically consistent answer.
Why should Hawai'i have to ask permission? It is a proven fact that the Hawaiian Kingdom was never extinguished! I don't think you actually have any connection to what is happening on the grassroots level in Hawai'i for we are well on our way to self governing despite all of the roadblocks constantly in our path! Internationally countries are asking the usa why? And very recently the case for genocide was granted a hearing. You just need to get in touch with the poor of the land for we might not have kala but we got the perseverance to see this through for our future generations depend on us and our ancestors prod us on to victory!

yup!! the locals who are not white and not a majority deserve this land. white people should literally be allowed to cooperatives under hawaiian rule and so should newcomers, blacks, indians, hispanics, asians, etc. be designated into cooperatives in hawaii under an aboriginal ruling structure would be very refreshing and hopefully become a both democratic, spiritual and ecologically sensitive change.
I lived in HAWAII from 1969 to 1984-85. I saw a free Hawaii become a POLICE STATE to protect the Japanese Money and the White Pop. in Hawaii. I lived in Waimanalo, near the park, I worked for the State 18 yrs and in those yrs Hawaii lost all it´s freedom. During the WAR built on LIES VIETNAM the military presence in Hawaii was shameful, poor behavior military drug addicts trained to kill SHAME. Hawaii used to be the best Maui, Kauai, HILO loved it all Molokai but Americans ruined the place, KILLED HAWAII SHAME USA. I moved out, away from the over bearing military presence. NOW more FREE. Now they can look forward to the Radiation from Fukushima that Hawaii is hiding to protect Tourism, YES FUKUSHIMA shores of HAWAII. Don´t tell no body Mahalo.

One correction, Peter. The military does not own the land they occupy. They pay $1 a year per acre to occupy and desecrate that land ... i know one more reason .....
Hawaii was not annexed...A country can not annexed another country...that is against International Law. The Hawaiian Government don't need RECOGNITION...again a country can not run another country. The Hawaiian Government now should just run Hawaii as a sole country because it can. Once that happen the United States would like to negotiate with Hawaii. It is not How, What we should do. The truth is to move on without doubt. If we Hawaiians had to assimilate with the foreigners of the past; Foreigners should assimilate with Hawaiians.
OMG lucky 'americans' allow the indigenous of Hawai'i to live there? Where do you think they should go? This is so sad that people in this day and age could think like this! First of all legally the Hawaiian Islands were not annexed and that is why Clinton put out the Apology Bill in 1993. Second of all, you had to be american to vote in the statehood ballot which by the way was not legal under international law because it did not include the 4 choices specified in that law. Also the military families were brought in to boost the vote. So, Hawaiians were not american and did not get to vote unless they had served in the military and at that time became american citizens. Also at that time there was a form of what is now known as the UN. Another little known fact is that Hawai'i was a Constitutional Monarchy that was recognized by the House of Nations in 1843 as an independent sovereign (member) nation! Another country cannot take another independent country across the ocean, as a territory by means of a Resolution. If that were so then China or Germany or Japan could take the United States as its possession. There was no treaty of annexation and no war for possession; the documents of the usa contain no metes and bounds because they have no land base and are a political occupying entity only. The Hawaiian Islands remains a Kingdom under occupation by the usa. I know that is a shock to a lot of people and honestly it is a shock to many here in Hawai'i also but these are the true facts of what happened here and continues till today!
U.S. Federal recognition is a false narrative to avoid the real issue that America never extinguished the Hawaiian Kingdom by way of Treaty as required under international law. Hawaii is occupied and it's status of state continuity is protected by law. If Hawaii was really part of the U.S., Hawaii would not be able to enter into the Permanente Court of Arbitration's fact finding inquiry that is underway to address it's occupation and war crimes
If you look at Zuckerberg's issue on the land and trying to force Hawaiians to sell. They don't want to ever sell their family lands and they don't have to. Royal Patents are forever.
The big problem is, we have never ever supported being part of the US and still stand behind our country the Hawaiian Kingdom. According to international law, we do not have to be part of the US and because we know that, we won't. Kauhane is a sell out. She is basically a traitor to our country. 97% told the US Department of the Interior we "oppose" all of their rules. Joshua is a sell out because he was in fact, not elected to be speaking out for anyone in Hawaii. Kaleikoa is the only person on the panel that is speaking the truth.

Joshua Mangauil how does the US government apologizing for past crimes somehow lead to "therefore, they will give back lands." They apologized about their treatment of Native Americans also, do you think they gave the entire United States back to the tribes? The United States is completely, 100% composed of lands that had former occupants. There is no scenario where the US government simply gives back all the lands they have taken "because it's the right thing to do." Any arguments of that nature should be summarily dismissed as nonsense.
