There are MORE Kanaka Maoli that are NOT versed in culture, history or spiritual protocols than those that are
There are MORE Kanaka Maoli that THAT DO NOT KNOW their moku'auhau, mo'olelo and even Ohana members
So when those that are :
Living in Hawaii Nei
Fluent 'Olelo Hawaii speakers
Versed in Cultural and Spiritual practices and traditions
Versed in Hula and Mele
Grounded in a firm foundation of their own identity
PLEASE remember that we are all ONE people, with VARIOUS hardships and experiences, no one is better than the other in being Kanaka Maoli....
To tell a Kanaka Maoli that they should be FLUENT IN 'OLELO HAWAII before calling out indignities visited upon our 'Aina, our Culture and especially our 'Olelo Makuahine is just WRONG! I can tell if something is wrong or right, I don't need a language translation.
I don't need to 'Olelo Hawaii to know that my language is being abused for the benefit of others.
I don't need to speak fluently to quantify my Aloha for my language or identity...
YOU DON'T NEED TO LIVE IN HAWAII TO CARE AND ALOHA AINA! ALL OUR KANAKA MATTER, NO MATTER WHERE THEY LIVE!!!
This kind of "ENTITLEMENT" amongst some of our Kanaka community needs to STOP. THAT IS DIVISIVE, it's NOT INCLUSIVE whatsoever and it definitely its NOT in line with our Kupuna and Ke Akua...

Kahu Richard Maele DeLeon About 20 years ago I was in physical therapy and I met this husband and wife there and we got to know each other after month of this so call therapy! And he tells me she is from Niihau so one day he was speaking to her in olelo and she responded speak to me in English not that so call Hawaiian! So from then on I did not see in any to learn olelo. So I ask him what she meant she said the DOE took a language and changed it to there way. And fine out both of them were school teachers in that they the colonizers changed the Kauna so to the westerns to destroy the language you delete the culture! She said the Niihau Dialect is the Maoli olelo.
