Aloha kakou,
I am frustrated that I cannot help more!

The news should report more about the "humanitarian crisis" but they allow themselves to get distracted by Trump, who shows no empathy for Puerto Rico.

1. found this on the news site and will send money there

"If you want to help those affected by Hurricane Maria, the Hawaii Red Cross is accepting monetary donations at its office at 4155 Diamond Head Road. Make checks payable to American Red Cross and indicate in the memo line that it's for Hurricane Maria. Donations of $10 can also be made by texting the word MARIA to 90999."

2. will contact our congressional reps to make sure they push for aid from congress.

3. is there a way to offer to house Puerto Ricans who want to come to Hawaii to restart their lives?

Looking for solutions asap!
Evern

Part III
What I write is based on personal experience, talking with neighbors and people in the town/city of Guaynabo, what I may learn on radio or read on the internet. People were not out much on the streets last evening enjoying themselves, at least in the area where I live. Though it was cooler last night, I think everybody is burnt out (your truly also) from getting up early to wait in lines, at gas stations, banks, supermarkets, restaurants, to access wifi, etc. The lines to get gasoline or diesel make the 1974? oil crisis look like kid stuff. Line wrap around corners and sometimes block or hamper the flow of traffic. There is sometihing to be said here about being prepared or not for crisises. If people had filled up their tanks beforehand as they could have, they wouldn't need gas at this crucial time. There's a curfew here from 7pm to 5am, so, except for maybe needing to drive long distances to see family or having to drive to work (though most are not working now), there' no need to be driving all over the place.Gasoline or diesel have been very important b/c many families have gas stoves to feed their families. Further, as power is almost completely out on the island, fuel is what's powering generators to keep the few stores, restaurants or other businesses open, not to mention the generators that some mostly large families use. Generators are also pumping water to residences. I live upslope so believe the water supply is reaching our urbanization (neighborhood) via generator. It's all quite mind boggling.
Necessary supplies are "slowly" coming in. Many containers of goods are said to be at the ports waiting for distribution but transporting the goods has been a problem. Either there's not enough local workers and drivers available due to circumstances of el huracan or the distribution of "diesel" is FEMA's top priority. This speaks to the federal government and the lack of "manpower" to get the job done. Apparently not enough helping hands have been sent to Puerto Rico. With Harvey in Texas and Irma in Florida (we had Irma here too!) the response was quick. The Trumper also visited these areas within a few days. He's supposed to be coming here "next Tuesday," 13 DAYS after the disaster. But why bother? "Please Mr. Trump, Puerto Rico needs more help," were the only words echoed in English last night on a local radio station program ("580"). Not at all to put all the blame on this character, but I guess the fact that he's coming here speaks to the PUBLIC PRESSURE being exerted. Good job. Things are "supposedly" getting better "poco un poco," though they don't really seem to be. Thank god for Burger King! They're reaping the profits. But you have to pay "CASH ONLY." Imua!
